Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site (Tuskegee Airmen National)
The following morning of Sunday, July 8, I will start with an early tour of the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site at 9:00 a.m. The historic site depicts the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first "African American aviators to serve in the military" via photos and artifacts (Selbert). The soldiers were highly respected, with successful missions over "Sicily, the Mediterranean, and North Africa" (Selbert). Because of their extraordinary heroism, the soldiers paved the way for integration throughout the U.S. military. I will go to the historic site to pay my respects to the brave men, as their feats have been far from forgotten. Immediately after, I will leave for Moton field to partake in a solo skydive through Skydive Opelika. I will attempt a jump of 20,000 feet, assisted by bottled oxygen. Todd faced a great struggle and significant risk becoming a pilot, and just as he took a risk, I will too. Following my breath-taking and challenging dive, I will depart for Opelika, Alabama at 4:30 p.m. for cocktails at the Whispering Oaks Restaurant. After dinner, I will go to the Macon Motel at approximately 8:30 p.m.
